NetBIOS name contains characters that are not allowed

  • NetBIOS
  • Storage Virtual Machine (SVM, formerly known as Vserver)

Issue

When trying to join an SVM to an Active Directory, you are prevented from doing so because the NetBIOS name contains a special character. The following error message is displayed:
 
The NetBIOSname \"" contains characters that are not allowed. Characters that are not allowed include @ # * ( ) = + [ ] | ; : \" , <<br>> / and ?
