How to perform MetroCluster failover method for a planned site-wide maintenance not requiring CFOD
Applies to
- MetroCluster
- Data ONTAP 8 (7-mode)
Description
The procedure for ONTAP 9 can be found in the MetroCluster management and disaster recovery in the section Performing switchover for tests or maintenance |
This article describes the procedure that should be followed to perform planned site maintenance on a 7-mode MetroCluster if you do not want to perform a Cluster Failover On Disaster (CFOD - that is cf takeover -d
) and all of the recovery/cleanup steps involved with getting the aggregates online.
Note: If you are considering performing a CFOD for site maintenance, contact NetApp Technical Support before doing so.
The following are the advantages of using the MetroCluster failover method versus performing a CFOD:
- Enables a MetroCluster user to take an entire site down for scheduled maintenance without executing a CFOD on the MetroCluster
- Does not require any downtime
- Eliminates most risk and time associated with full CFOD
All aggregates need to be mirrored for performing these actions. |
