Issue

  • SCE job fails on one or more Exchange hosts with the error in the Job Details:

"Backup of Exchange 2016 Backup Production Servers - AM Active Database using policy Exchange 2016 Backup Production Servers - AM Active Database on AM-EXCHP-A008.iconcr.com failed with error: Failed on 'AM-EXCHP-A008':

Activity 'Creating Snapshot copy for log backup' failed with error: Skip creating snapshot on log LUN,
Activity 'Registering Backup and Applying Retention' failed with error: Failed to register backup metadata, backup metadata is null or empty.
Activity 'Up To The Minute Retention' failed with error: Skip UTM retention.

  • Corresponding error in the hosts's Application Event logs shows a VSS Event code 8193 issue:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine ConvertStringSidToSid(S-1-5-21-1957994488-261478967-682003330-126175.bak).  hr = 0x80070539, The security ID structure is invalid
