Applies to

  • Windows 10
  • Windows server 2012 and 2016
  • NFSv3
  • ESXi 6.5, 6.7

Issue

  • NFS housed Windows VMs on ESXi crash with Bluescreen after/during applying Windows Update
    • Corrupted bootsector observed
    • Other Windows guestOS attached disks report Event ID 50 - lost write, when writing extended ntfs attributes. This error occurs when Windows is trying to commit data from the file system Cache Manager (not hardware level cache) to the physical disk. This behavior is part of the memory management of Windows.
  • Migrating VMs to SAN datastore allows Windows guest to boot successfully
  • vmkernel entry:
WARNING: NFS: 5603: Failed to convert sgArr to NFSIoInfo: Out of memory
