AWS CVO upgrade fails without error message

Issue

CVO upgrade fails when trying to use "Upgrade Wizard" from Cloud Manager:

  • The upgrade appears to begin with notification "Upgrade started, and it may take 25 minutes to complete"
  • The wheel rotates for about 10 minutes and then the Canvas view is presented again, without error
  • According to the AWS Console, the CVO instance is rebooting
  • Following the reboot, Cloud Manager is still showing "new versions available"
  • When logging in to System Manager, the old version's login page is displayed
