Issue

  • Currently, ONTAP will always attempt to resolve UIDs and GIDs to corresponding name strings when communicating with NFSv4 clients.
  • ONTAP does support numeric identifiers for NFSv4 communication, but will only use numeric identifiers as a fallback method if the lookups fail
  • In some environments where these these lookups are unavailable or otherwise prohibitive to perform, it may be advantageous to disable the name string lookups entirely
  • This request for enhancement is to incorporate an optional configuration to completely bypass the name string lookup and default to numeric identifiers
