Can a network outage cause a node to panic?

Answer

  • No. In the event of a data network disruption, the node remains intact and is not expected to panic.
  • The clients lose the ability to read from or write into a volume due to loss of data LIF access.
  • Once the network connectivity is restored, the data LIF access is reinstated.

  • Node panic is a safeguarding mechanism used by ONTAP to protect the integrity of data in the disks.
  • If it is suspected that the network issue did cause a node to panic, then contact NetApp Technical Support and create a new case for RCA (root cause analysis) so that the issue can be triaged and investigated thoroughly.
