Can a network outage cause a node to panic?
Applies to
- ONTAP 9
- FAS/AFF
- MetroCluster
Answer
- No. In the event of a data network disruption, the node remains intact and is not expected to panic.
- The clients lose the ability to read from or write into a volume due to loss of data LIF access.
- Once the network connectivity is restored, the data LIF access is reinstated.
Additional Information
- Node panic is a safeguarding mechanism used by ONTAP to protect the integrity of data in the disks.
- If it is suspected that the network issue did cause a node to panic, then contact NetApp Technical Support and create a new case for RCA (root cause analysis) so that the issue can be triaged and investigated thoroughly.
