The procedure for ONTAP 9 can be found in the MetroCluster management and disaster recovery in the section Performing switchover for tests or maintenance

 

This article describes the procedure that should be followed to perform planned site maintenance on a 7-mode MetroCluster if you do not want to perform a Cluster Failover On Disaster (CFOD - that is cf takeover -d) and all of the recovery/cleanup steps involved with getting the aggregates online.

Note: If you are considering performing a CFOD for site maintenance, contact NetApp Technical Support before doing so.

The following are the advantages of using the MetroCluster failover method versus performing a CFOD:

  • Enables a MetroCluster user to take an entire site down for scheduled maintenance without executing a CFOD on the MetroCluster
  • Does not require any downtime
  • Eliminates most risk and time associated with full CFOD
     
All aggregates need to be mirrored for performing these actions.
