Event Summary

  • E-Series controller has rebooted into Service Mode because it detected an excessive number of Data Assurance (DA) errors. The controller entered service mode to prevent further data corruption.
  • If additional DA errors are logged, then the controller may enter Data Assurance Analysis Lockdown mode.
  • DA feature implements the T10 Protection Information (PI) standard, ensuring data integrity by detecting and correcting errors during data transfer along the I/O path. It adds cyclic redundancy checks (CRCs) to each data block in DA-enabled volumes, verifying data integrity during transmission and preventing corrupted data from being written to disk or returned to the host.

Validate

Login to SANtricity System Manager and review the state of controllers under the Hardware section. When the controller is in service mode, a yellow wrench will be displayed on the controller in DA service mode. The state of controller may be confirmed using the View settings option.

Resolution

  • A full system diagnostics is necessary to determine the underlying cause of DA errors. Recovery steps may include hardware replacements and software upgrades.
  • It is recommended to halt I/O activities under a proper diagnostics of the system is completed.
