Unable to start mysql service with error "Failed to start MySQL Server"

Issue

  • Unable to start the OCIE service in Unified Mnager installed on a RHEL server.
  • Trying to start MySQL service will result in the below error:

    • [root@rhel7-x64-template ~]# sudo systemctl start mysqld

      Job for mysqld.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status mysqld.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

      > Check journalctl -xe to 2019-10-31T08:36:59.942871Z 0 [ERROR] Could not create unix socket lock file
      /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock.lock.
      2019-10-31T08:36:59.942880Z 0 [ERROR] Unable to setup unix socket lock file.
      2019-10-31T08:36:59.942886Z 0 [ERROR] Aborting
      Mysql was unable to create unix socket lock file.identify error
