HTTP 500 error reported when attempting to use the web interface of OnCommand Unified Manager

Issue

Symptom 1:
In graphical Interface HTTP 500 error reported when accessing cluster details after upgrading Unified Manager . 

Response received with HTTP status code 500
 

Symptom 2:
Most searches and attempts to utilize the web interface of Unified Manager throw HTTP 500. Attempting to verify or change the networking configuration from the maintenance console throws errors, among them:

/etc/init.d/vmware-tools: 1153: [: =: unexpected operator
